I took some time between projects yesterday to take a walk in my yard.  I have been desperate to get outside and feel some bit of Spring in the air.  The snow has melted, exposing the carpet of acorn shells and pine cones (where I'd much rather see grass).  We live in a wooded area, so the Spring and Autumn seasons blend together for a never ending cleanup of the mess that falls from the trees.
We've already cleaned up the branches (which seem to never stop falling) and I was able to see the vast amount of pinecones left behind from Autumn.  There must be 5 different varieties on our "lawn".  Some are in great condition…enough so, that I grabbed a few empty bags and collected some of each variety.  Once they are fully dry, they will be great to use in projects for Autumn and Winter decorations.

Keep your eyes peeled for pinecone projects in late Summer...
