Dresser Re-Design...

10/20/2015

I just finished working on a dresser...and I love it...
When I began working on this very old dresser, it had a coat of ivory paint and brushed nickel knobs.   It had been well cared for and was in great condition.  I wanted to give it some texture and charm, so I made three different onlays in my workshop and affixed them to the dresser.  The rose onlay that I placed on the middle drawer is the largest and most pronounced, drawing your eye to the center of the piece.  I made two back plates for the glass knobs and two additional onlays that I added to the trim, toward the top of either side of the dresser.

Since this dresser had already been painted once before, I decided to go with chalk paint, as it  provides excellent adhesion.  I chose Annie Sloan, "Pure White", which I use constantly.  I sanded and lightly distressed the edges and added a protective coat of soft wax.

After digging through my collection of antique and vintage hardware, I found the perfect finishing touches...two glass knobs and eight matching, brass pail pulls.  I brushed the bail pulls with some white paint, measured and drilled the proper holes and installed the hardware.

She's a beauty.
